The heartbreaking aftermath of Hayden Panettiere’s sudden passing continues to unfold in court.
On Thursday, the late actress’s 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, made a very rare and brief remote court appearance alongside her father, former professional boxer Wladimir Klitschko. The hearing was held to determine the temporary guardianship of Hayden’s estate, of which young Kaya is the sole beneficiary.
According to reports, Kaya appeared on camera wearing a simple white T-shirt with her hair pulled back. She was soft-spoken and composed as she confirmed her identity to the judge and verified that she was with her father.
During the hearing, Wladimir’s legal team requested additional powers to investigate and recover any property that may have been misappropriated by non-family members following Hayden’s tragic death. The judge ultimately granted Wladimir temporary guardianship of the estate to protect Kaya’s inheritance.
Hayden Panettiere tragically passed away on August 16 at the young age of 36. She was found unresponsive in a South Carolina residence, and an investigation into her sudden death is still ongoing.
Dealing with the sudden loss of a loved one is an unimaginable pain for any family. Just recently, the entertainment world was left heartbroken when actor Chad Lowe mourned the tragic and sudden loss of his 13-year-old daughter. Now, fans are sending their deepest sympathies to young Kaya as she navigates life without her mother.
In her May 2026 memoir, Hayden bravely opened up about her struggles with postpartum depression and addiction. She described the decision to give Wladimir full custody of Kaya in 2018 as “the most gut-wrenching experience of my life.”
The next court hearing regarding the estate is scheduled for December, but the judge confirmed that Kaya will not need to be present.
